Hey readers!
We’re taking it back to Fall 2020 with a special re-run episode on The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. If you missed our discussion the first time around, or if you find yourself wondering about all the fantastic connections to this month’s book club pick, today’s review of Fitzgerald’s most famous novel will help.
To get us back in the 1920s spirit, here are a few bonus links. Before you click away, be sure to scroll down for exciting announcements!
Immersive ‘The Great Gatsby’ production to premiere in New York “For this production, created and directed by Alexander Wright, the hotel's ballrooms have been converted into Jay Gatsby's mansion. Audiences are part of the action as guests at a lavish party, and they get to watch the story of the mysterious billionaire Gatsby and his doomed love for Daisy Buchanan unfold around them…As audiences walk around, they can even interact with characters like Nick Carraway, Daisy and Tom Buchanan, and even Jay Gatsby himself in various rooms. Guests are even encouraged, but not required, to dress in 1920s-style clothing.”
The Beautiful and the Damned: Two Gatsby-esque Novels “retell The Great Gatsby’s story from the perspective of those characters, in their own voices, with drastically different results. Each spins off from Fitzgerald’s version, yet each in its own way ends up illuminating his novel’s lasting appeal.”
Tomorrow
Tomorrow at 7 pm EST, we’re hosting Office Hours, an Ask Us Anything event where we’ll be answering your questions about classics, literary analysis, our favorite holiday foods, and more! We can’t wait to spend this time together and hope you’ll join us. This event will be recorded.
Later this month, we will discuss The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo. Our book club discussions are always so lovely, and so smart. We walk away with all new ideas about what we read, even after our recording sessions. Join our Literature Scholars to participate in these Zoom events.
December & January Calendar
Here it is! Our big announcement for winter 2022-2023. In December, we’re taking a bit of a break (with no formal book selection); however, we have such fun things planned for our Patreon community! For January, we’ve planned our first official J-Term: a study of poetry and prose with Langston Hughes. We will read Not Without Laughter and his first published poetry collection: The Weary Blues. See our calendars below for more details, and sign up to join us for a Novel Pairings Patreon overview, Best Books of the Year Happy Hour event, and Harlem Renaissance literature to ring in the new year!
Have a lovely week, readers. We cannot wait to hear all of your thoughts on The Great Gatsby and The Chosen and the Beautiful.
After all, there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book.
