New Episode! The House of the Spirits Part Two
Hey, listeners!
Today our second episode on Isabel Allende’s The House of the Spirits hits your podcast players, and we can’t wait for you to listen. In our Part One episode we discussed the context and history of the book and explored the wide cast of characters. Part Two dives deep into bigger picture questions, themes, and overall takeaways. We’re also sharing six contemporary reads that complement this classic. If you’re looking for your next great family story, you’re not going to want to miss this episode!

There is so much to talk about with this book that we couldn’t get to everything—even with two episodes! Our Novel Pairings patrons will be getting a little extra on The House of the Spirits through bonus episodes and a Zoom book club discussion on Wednesday, June 30th. Coming up:
Next week, we’re sharing a TBR-toppling episode deep diving into one of our favorite sub-genres: sweeping family sagas. We’ll chat about just what it means for a book to be “sweeping” (and, for that matter, a “saga”) and tell you about our favorite classic and contemporary family sagas. Then we’ll kick off the month of July with an episode about The Summer Book by Tove Jansson. It’s a beautifully written book that also happens to be very short, so there’s plenty of time to read it before the episode!
In case you missed it, we shared our summer selections on IGTV and in an Instagram post.
Currently reading:
On Sara’s recommendation, Chelsey is reading Craft in the Real World by Matthew Salesses, which has been a great pairing for The House of the Spirits. Sara recently read and loved Pet by Akwaeke Emezi and is now deeply engrossed in Patricia Highsmith’s classic suspense novel The Talented Mr. Ripley.
