New episode! The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Hi, listeners!
Labor Day is over and we are officially heading into our fall season! You might not be able to pull those sweaters out just yet, but we’ve got some other ways to get you in the fall mood. We’re heading back to school this fall with a particularly academic line up, starting with a book that seemingly everyone read in high school: The Great Gatsby. I’ve taught this book for five or six years and Im going to miss all those classroom discussions, so I was incredibly grateful to have the chance to get nerdy and chat with Chelsey about this curriculum staple!
“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” - F. Scott Fitzgerald.
If you can’t get enough of Gatsby and the Roaring 20s here’s some additional reading:
Why The Great Gatsby is The Great American Novel
Why I despise The Great Gatsby
Read the brilliant Jesmyn Ward’s review and reflection on The Great Gatsby
This review of Baz Lurhman’s Gatsby validates my own strong opinions
Coming up:
Next week, we’re toppling your TBRs with our fall new releases and backlist pairings episode. We LOVED sharing the buzzy summer reads we were excited about and pairing them with some of our favorite backlist gems, so we decided we needed to make it happen this season as well. There are so many fantastic releases coming out in the next couple of months and we can’t wait to share what we’re excited about along with some older favorites.
The following week—September 22nd—we’ll be sharing an episode about a book we wish we’d read in high school: Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich. It’s not to late to read along with us before that drops!
Currently Reading:
After an epic cross country drive, Miles, Bingley, and I are spending a couple of weeks on the Long Island beach and I have been devouring books. Some recent favorites have been When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole, Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi, The Bright Lands by John Fram, and Little Gods by Ming Jen.

We declare after all, there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book!
Have a lovely week, everyone!
