New Episode! My Antonia and wintery books
Hey, listeners!
Our first classic episode of the winter season is out today! This one is about Willa Cather’s My Antonia, and it’s an extremely special episode for me. My former student and our assistant here at Novel Pairings, Michelle, joined us to discuss this American classic. Michelle first read My Antonia in my AP Language / American Literature class in my first year teaching high school, and it was a real joy to be able to relive that with her and hear how her understanding of this book has changed.
This episode is relatively spoiler free and can be enjoyed before, after, or instead of reading the book. We also offer some fabulously cozy and and wintery pairings in this episode, so you don’t want to miss it!

We touch on Cather’s biography in the episode, and this is a great article if you want to know more.
Read about why Cather is the “only person capable of doing justice” to the Nebraska landscape.

Coming up:
Next week, we have another cozy episode for you. We’re talking with Annie Jones, owner of The Bookshelf, about Little Women fashion, comfort reads, and supporting indie bookstores during the holidays. Chelsey and I are both big fans of Annie’s store and her book recommendations, so it was an absolute delight to get to chat with her.
Then on December 22nd, just in time for Christmas, we’re sharing our Little Women episode. You may already know that neither of us is a huge Little Women fan, but we really enjoyed revisiting it and discussing it for this episode. We hope you’ll enjoy hearing our appreciative, but slightly different take on this beloved classic!
Currently Reading:
My wintery reading continues with The Butcher’s Blessing by Ruth Gilligan. This is a book set in rural Ireland and explores the tension between a dwindling group of people who believe in the “old ways” of farming and butchering and a quickly modernizing nation. The characters are so rich and the setting is eerie and moody…I’m loving it. On a completely different note, I also really want to read The Duke and I by Julia Quinn before Bridgerton (the series based on it) releases on Netflix Christmas Day. I know Chelsey really likes Quinn’s romances which, of course, makes me all the more eager to dive in.
