Join us for an Epic Adventure on the Aegean
all about our summer reading plans for the pod + a new look for NP
Hey, readers! We’re thrilled to finally share our BIG summer reading plans with you. Our summer selection is a throwback to our early days on the podcast. It’s full of adventure, drama, and ancient history. It’s full of allusions and connections to contemporary literature. It’s the perfect slow summer read to enjoy with fellow book nerds…
We hope you’ll join us in revisiting The Odyssey! We’re so excited to dive back into a truly classic tome, nerd out with literary discussions, and fully lean into our identities as #MythologyGirls.
This time around we will be reading Emily Wilson’s translation, published in 2017—the first edition of Homer’s seminal work translated by a woman. Fear not, mythology girls, reading from Wilson’s translation is not required join; all translations available at your bookstore (used or otherwise) or local library will work just as well and provide another layer to the discussions we have on the podcast and in our Patreon community.
If you are looking to procure a fresh new copy of Emily Wilson’s text, you can order directly through our Bookshop.org storefront to continue supporting your favorite bookish podcast at no additional cost to you.
Reading Deeply with the Novel Pairings Crew
If you’ve ever felt curious about joining Classics Club on Patreon, we recommend trying our our paid subscriptions this summer to get even more out of your summer reading season. Starting at just $5 a month, patrons of Novel Pairings get access to weekly bonus episodes guiding you through the classics.
At our $8 level, for the first time ever, we’re sharing bonus weekly recap episodes to check in and talk even more deeply about our experience with The Odyssey. That’s right! We’re recapping each episode in this epic story with our signature literary analysis and friendly conversation. Along with these weekly recaps, we will also teach live classes and host book club discussions in June and July. We can’t wait to learn about allusions, Greek culture, and psychoanalytic theory with you.
Sign up today and get a free printable bookmark of our weekly reading schedule so you can follow along with our community.
New Look, Same Novel Pairings
Our Novel Pairings branding got a recent refresh, and we are loving this new look! Our new branding reflects the “cozy, light academia” vibe of our community at Novel Pairings, and we can’t wait to see these new colors on our merch (more to come on that soon, we promise. It’s a labor of love).
This branding project was made possible by our generous Patreon supporters. Thank you for your continued support of our work to keep scholarship accessible and fun, and for giving us the necessary resources to make our podcast and community better. We couldn’t do it without you.
Final Notes
Readers, we have just one more week of children’s lit before we set sail on our epic summer of great books. We hope you enjoy our final episode for the spring semester on The Wild Book by by Juan Villoro, arriving on podcast streaming platforms everywhere next Tuesday.
Until then, happy reading!
