Hello, listeners!
The first two episodes of Novel Pairings debut today! We’re so excited to share them with you. In Introducing Novel Pairings, Sara and I say hello, share our plans for the podcast, and discuss our thoughts on “classic literature.” In Jane Austen’s Emma and Romantic Heroines, we discuss our love for Austen’s it-girl heroine, plus give you six contemporary reads that pair well with Emma.
This weekly newsletter will be a source of Novel Pairings news and announcements, bookish enthusiasm, and fun extras. For example, here are some of our favorite Emma-related reads from around the web:
In 2020’s Emma, Emma Woodhouse Raids Cher Horowitz’s Wardrobe
The Battle Over Jane Austen’s Whiteness
Is Jane Austen the Antidote to Social Media Overload?

Bonus Emma-Inspired Recommendation:
If you love getting lost in the Regency era and can’t get enough of Austen’s sassy heroines, you simply MUST meet Tessa Dare. Dare writes sexy, hilarious, historical romance novels set in Austen’s time. I recommend that you start with the first novel in her Girl Meets Duke series, The Duchess Deal.
Currently Reading:
I’m LOVING N.K. Jemisin’s short story collection, How Long ‘Til Black Future Month? I’ve been savoring her work with one story a day, and I can guarantee that I’ll mention this collection at some point on the podcast. There are SO many pairing possibilities! I’m deciding between Writers & Lovers by Lily King or Laurentian Divide by Sarah Stonich for my next contemporary read.
Up Next:
This weekend, Sara and I are going to see the new Emma movie (in separate states, alas!) and record a bonus episode to be released next week. We just recorded Episode Two on The Awakening by Kate Chopin. Be on the lookout for some exciting giveaways on Instagram @novelpairingspod, and follow us there for more classics-related content. We’re still getting a website up and running for show notes and such. Until then, check out our Emma Episode list on Bookshop.com.
Where to find us:

We declare after all, there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book!
Have a lovely week, everyone!
