Hey, listeners!
Inspired by our two May classics—In the Time of the Butterflies and The Blue Castle—today’s episode is all about coming-of-age stories for grownups. We rounded up some of our favorite backlist women’s fiction that tell a coming-of age-stories but feature adult protagonists. This was such a fun episode to record because we got to talk about some deep backlist favorites that haven’t gotten airtime on the podcast. We also reflect a bit on what makes coming-of-age stories so appealing and why that term shouldn’t be restricted to adolescent readers and characters.

Coming up:
Next week we’ll be back with an episode about L.M. Montgomery’s The Blue Castle. Chelsey had read and loved this book previously, but it was Sara’s first time through, and we’ll dive into the sweet elements of the book that we love as well as some of the tropes we’re less fond of. Then we’ll close out the month and the spring season by recapping our favorite reads of the last three months on May 25th.
We’re also going live on Instagram TONIGHT at 7pm ET to reveal our summer book lineup. If you’re a patron, you already know what books we’re covering on the pod this summer, but, if not, you’re going to want to catch this so you can read along with us!
For a reminder of our spring lineup, check out this Instagram post for a full list and dates.
Currently reading:
Chelsey recently finished The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth on Libro.fm and thought it was an entertaining book that defied genre. Sara is reading Sorrow and Bliss by Meg Mason, which is bittersweet with some lovely writing.
