Hey readers!
This month’s book club read is the contemporary novel, The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo, a Great Gatsby retelling. In anticipation of Vo’s novel, today’s episode is a Roaring 20s TBR Toppler. We are giving you a little bit of everything in this list: historical fiction, romance, mystery, backlist books, and new releases. We hope you add at least a couple of these novels to your already-full TBR!
If you can’t get enough 1920s settings, try a classic published in the decade. We rounded up a bunch of fabulous choices for last week’s Patreon bonus episode, and Part 2 is on its way to patrons later this month.
It’s also Election Day in the US. Have you voted yet? This episode is the perfect companion as you drive to the polls or wait in line.
Coming This Month
We are thrilled to revisit The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald through the lens of adaptation theory in November. Want to read along with us? We’ll discuss The Chosen and the Beautiful by Nghi Vo with our book club, and if you don’t want to re-read Gatsby (or if you do!), we’ll re-run our episode to help you review.
Our November learning event is “Office Hours” — a time for you to Ask Us Anything about adaptations, Austen, Shakespeare, Fitzgerald, or the reading life (or regular life!), book recommendations, and more. We will gather questions in advance and answer fresh questions in real time. This event will be recorded.
Behind the Scenes
We’ve been planning our winter content and a full spring semester full of literary education and fun. We can’t wait to reveal our classic selections! Patreon members will hear it first. Sign up to join our community for access to events, early announcements, and bonus episodes each week. Your continued support helps us maintain the show and provides us with the financial backing we need in order to keep creating fresh, fun, and educational content. Thank you!
We hope you’re reading something delightful this season, readers. After all, there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book.
