It feels like the publishing gods have been too good to readers this fall because this is a BIG season for book publishing. With so many interesting and hype-worthy titles coming out, the task of selecting which books we wanted to talk about on the podcast was a little challenging (how do we choose?), but we feel like our episode today reflects the most intriguing titles our readers will want to know more about.
As is our fashion with any preview episode, each new title we discuss is perfectly paired with a backlist book for your consideration, giving you the option to explore additional titles while you wait for our library holds and pre-orders to come in. For our preview titles, you can expect some highly anticipated books by BIG authors, eye-catching titles from indie presses, and a smattering of interesting fiction and nonfiction for readers of all tastes.

It can be hard to know where to begin to look for titles from Indie presses, but thanks to Independent Book Review’s ‘Upcoming Book Releases We’re Excited About | Fall 2023’, they have you covered.
If you’re looking for what some of the major magazine publications are predicting the biggest books of the fall will be, Time Magazine gathered ‘The 36 Most Anticipated Books of Fall 2023.’ The New York Times has two lists for this massive season: ‘34 Works of Fiction to Read This Fall’ and ‘33 Nonfiction Books to Read This Fall.’
Kirkus’ ‘150 Most Anticipated Books of the Fall’ might seem a bit overwhelming at first due to its large size. Even better—each sentence is highlighted for quick and easy browsing.

Novel Pairings in Person!
You may have noticed over on our Instagram that we had a special weekend. Chelsey and family flew out to Colorado to visit with Sara’s crew, and we had the best time! Finally getting to meet in person after working together on the show for the past three years was such a treat. We had so much fun visiting with each other, watching Theo and Lou bond and become best buddies, and get some extra book talk in (plus visiting a bookstore). We’re already looking forward to our next visit!
Over on Patreon
Speaking of a great weekend in Colorado, we had the chance to sit down and record a special podcast episode live and in person together for Patreon. In this special Q&A episode, we talk about all things school: the subjects we wish we had studied, the classes we’d like to teach, our feelings on current education issues and trends, and more. If you’d like to hear our teacherly chat and more from our bonus episodes, we have monthly tiers for readers starting at $5.
Coming up on Wednesday, September 13th at 7 PM ET is our first class of the Fall semester: Literary History from Modernism to Postmodernism. To access our classes and monthly virtual book club, readers can sign up for our Literature Scholar tier at $10 a month. Annual discounts of 10% are also available. To sign up for Patreon community, head over to patreon.com/novelpairings.
