It’s finally fall, readers!
This season’s publishing schedule is overflowing with adaptations, so we devoted an entire episode to the ones we’re anticipating the most. In addition to discussing 12 novels, we touch on lots of other topics around adaptations, including their place in the larger literary conversation. We even share some spicy opinions in this one, readers!
In this episode, we ask:
When does a topic or particular retelling become oversaturated?
What is the difference between an adaptation, a retelling, and a remix?
What role do adaptations play in bringing voice to marginalized populations?
We recognize that we are not always equipped to answer the questions we pose. As white women, we want to draw attention to other voices related to the question of marginalized populations and retellings. Here are a few resources on that topic:

In case you missed it…
In two weeks, we’ll be discussing Persuasion by Jane Austen, and you can bet we’re going to watch (and analyze the heck out of) THAT adaptation. To see all the fun happenings on Patreon, check out our calendar:
Tomorrow night (9/14 @ 7 pm ET), we’re hosting a brand new Patreon event. Seminar: Adaptations will open with us sharing a few definitions and framing the season’s topic (this portion will be recorded and saved). Then, we’ll open the floor to our literary scholars to ask and answer questions on the topic of adaptations. It’s a lot like our book club meetings, but instead of discussing a specific title, we’re approaching a single topic together. Our community is full of such smart readers, and we can’t wait to hear what you have to say about adaptations!
Readers, we are so excited to be back reading with all of you this fall. To learn more about Novel Pairings University offerings, check out this newsletter. Head on over to our Patreon site to sign up so you can enjoy all of the amazing things we have planned for this semester! And don’t forget to share our cozy community of readers with your friends.
We declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book!
