New Episode! And what's happening this month in Patreon
Join our literary adventure this month!
As we kick off a new school year here at Novel Pairings, we just wanted to take a moment to say a big thank you for all your support! Whether you’ve been with our Classics Club from the very start or just hopped on board during our summer journey through Les Misérables, you’re the reason this podcast exists, and you fill our nerdy English teacher hearts with so much joy. We feel incredibly lucky to do what we love, especially when it means sharing our passion and experience with all of you.
We’ve got an exciting fall ahead! But first, don’t miss today’s main feed episode. Straight from the Patreon vault, we’re sharing last summer’s “buzzy books we both read” episode, in which we discuss what we thought of the hottest summer releases. It’s a great way to revisit some backlist titles and to ponder the buzzy books from this year—what’s changed in popularity or trends since then? Listen to the episode wherever you get your podcasts and let us know what you think.
What to Expect in September
The Remains of the Day
This month, we will kick off our fall reading series with Kazuo Ishiguro's poignant novel, The Remains of the Day. We encourage you to read along with us and share your thoughts on Discord! This classic not only offers a deep dive into themes of memory and regret but also sets the stage for rich conversations about the nuances of human relationships and the passage of time. We’ll discuss this classic at book club on Wednesday, September 25th at 7pm ET.
Seminar Style Class
Sara will be offering a special seminar discussing “What makes a book a modern classic” on Wednesday, September 11 at 7pm ET.
State of the Pod
As we conclude Les Mis and look forward to a new fall season, we invite you to join us for exclusive behind-the-scenes insights and brainstorming. On Friday, September 13 at 12 PM ET, we will host a special "state of the podcast" meeting for Novel Pairings Producers, where we'll preview upcoming content (like our secret spring selection) and welcome your questions and input. By becoming a Novel Pairings Producer at $20/month, you'll gain access to this event and help shape the future of our podcast while enjoying our gratitude for your support.
Looking Ahead
In October, we will explore Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. Although we have previously aired episodes on this classic work, we haven't had the opportunity to engage in a discussion with our Patreon community. This pivotal text delves into themes of creation and responsibility, making it ideal for sparking engaging conversations.
As we approach November, we will enjoy Dodie Smith’s I Capture the Castle. This enchanting novel whisks readers away to a dilapidated castle nestled in the British countryside, narrated by a witty and bookish protagonist. It serves as a delightful escape and a charming way to ease into the year's end.
Thank you for being a part of this community. We truly appreciate all of you and look forward to another season of reading together.
Until then, we declare after all, there is no enjoyment like reading. How much sooner one tires of anything than of a book!
